About Jessica and her own pursuit on guitar:
In the past decade, Jessica Ackerley has already established herself on the Canadian and American rock and jazz scene as a unique guitarist, composer and band leader. She is also an experienced female guitar teacher of over ten years, having taught guitar in numerous formats ranging from private students to multi-participant masterclasses in both the United States and Canada.
Born and raised in Alberta, Canada; Jessica holds undergraduate degrees from Grant MacEwan and St. Francis Xavier University as well as a Master's in Jazz Performance from Rutgers University. Mentors throughout her musical growth include Todd Neufeld, Tyshawn Sorey, Zakir Hussain, Vic Juris, and Lorne Lofsky among others. She has performed at established venues such as Webster Hall, John Zorn's The Stone, The Metropolitan Museum Met Breuer and The Blue Note.
Jessica continuously tries to expand her musical horizons with various projects across Canada and the U.S. She has toured throughout North America with her rock bands and jazz groups. In February 2017 Jessica released her debut trio album, Coalesce, featuring Nick Fraser on drums and Mat Muntz on bass to much critical acclaim.
She currently resides in Manhattan with her husband and cat, Jhawk, where she performs, teaches and practices guitar on a regular basis.
